Which scooter can I ride?

Answer a few questions and find out which scooter you can legally ride in Poland – 50cc, 125cc, or whether you still need a licence. The test also covers foreign driving licences.

Which rules is the test based on?

  • 50cc scooter (moped): requires a category AM licence or any other category. People born on or before 18 January 1995 may ride one without a licence (Art. 133 of the Polish Act on Drivers).
  • 125cc scooter (up to 11 kW): requires category A1, A2 or A, or a category B licence held for at least 3 years.
  • Every driving licence category entitles you to ride a moped (50cc) in Poland.
  • EU/EFTA licences are valid in Poland without exchange.
  • Ukrainian licences held by people with UKR status are recognised in Poland without exchange for the duration of temporary protection (EU Regulation 2022/1280).
  • Other foreign licences are valid in Poland for 185 days from the start of your stay; after that an exchange is required – without an exam if the document complies with the Vienna or Geneva Convention.
  • Minimum age: AM – 14, A1 – 16.
